Hi Jason, I’m a subscriber to Bob Rinear’s newsletter (Investyourself — Financial Intelligence Report, etc.) and have just come to your site via his recommendation. (Bob’s work was recommended by a good friend.)

I just had a chance to look at your book list and thought I’d offer a suggestion, though I’m — to say the least — a pretty ignorant newbie at best. Regarding Technical/chart analysis, I have Murphy’s book and a number of others. But the one I’ve found of greatest interest, and that’s not on your list is:

Charles D. Kirkkpatrick II & Julie Dahlquist. Technical Analysis: the Complete Resource for Financial Market; Technicians. Published 2007 by FT Press, Upper Saddle River, NJ.

The reason I like it is what appears to be its particularly thorough and insightful presentation of the history and math behind each of the indicators, patterns, etc., discussed, and even more, its specific analysis of whatever evidence there is for their statistical validation. Maybe worth a look?

Just as background, I know very little and am trying to learn. I am currently an all-services subscriber to StockCharts and am having fun working with various time frames, indicators, and overlays. I haven’t had much chance to look around your site yet, but would be looking for some insights into momentum, etc. that go beyond just chart patterns.

That’s particularly the case because my perception is that, without guidance by somebody well-resourced, experienced, knowledgeable, and insightful, I’d have no real way to make sense of any financial entity or its context in light of all the omissions, off-the-books activities, and outright lies perpetrated by even “prestigious” companies . . . as well as the government. (I must admit that, in regard to the last, a little reading reveals the lies to be so glaringly laughable that I expect they’d be obvious to a six-year-old! Endorsing that view, I remember, a writer in Barron’s recently referred to the government’s reported GDP as “gross deceptive pablum”!)

    Regards,
    P

      Hi Peter,

Thanks for the book recommendation. I’ll check it out. It doesn’t sound like something I’d be interested in because I don’t those kinds of technical indicators but perhaps others would thankful for the introduction.

As you start you trading “education” I have on bit of advise – keep everything simple. More is not better.

      Jason
